“My name is Naseerah and I have been a storyteller for as long as I can remember. From poetry to textiles, pie crusts to paper—I have told stories through whatever medium has caught my attention at the moment. Everything I make tells a story through fragrance, color, and name. Each item represents a season, a memory, an arch of personal growth. So, why Abdah? That too is a story. Abdah is an Arabic word meaning "female servant/slave of God,” but it's also unfortunately used to refer to Black women in a derogatory fashion. As a Black Muslim woman, it seemed fitting for me to reclaim the term that was so spiritually important to me.”
