13 Creative Valentine’s Day Date Ideas for 2022

A gift for Valentine’s Day is great, but for that special personal in your life, you’ll probably want to pair it with a date. It’s going to make the day more memorable and is almost guaranteed to score you more points! So if you’re not sure what to do this Valentine’s Day, don’t worry, I’ve got you covered.

I picked out 13 of the best date ideas I could think of (and find online) and presented each one to Abby to be scored on a scale from 1 to 10.

I tried to choose dates for every type of couple: extroverts, introverts, those with busy schedules or on a tight budget.

FYI, if you don’t know Abby, she is a hardcore holiday person. She loves Thanksgiving, birthdays, anniversaries, and certainly Valentine’s Day (she went so far as to call it an “extra birthday” in the video), so I knew she would give honest feedback and not go easy on me! Plus, she gives valuable insight into how to make each date be the best it can be.

I filmed Abby’s reaction and response to each idea and cut it into a little YouTube video which you can watch below. (Pro tip: the video is broken up into sections, so you can skip around the video to the ideas you like).

If you prefer text format, that’s below, but either way, I think you’ll find this list very helpful!

No matter how you’re celebrating Valentine’s Day, we hope you stay safe, and if you’re not celebrating with anyone else make sure you TREAT YO’SELF! You deserve it.

The List

1. Take a Winter Dip (6/10)

Abby (laughing) “Where is this dip happening? I don't want to be freezing so in order to make this date work I need to come back home where there's a fire going, the house is warm, and maybe you’ve got a bubble bath already drawn.”

2. Visit the Place Where You First Met (8/10)

Abby “That's very cute, that's very cute, I give that a solid 8/10.”

3. Explore a Nearby Small Town (8/10)

Abby “That’s cute. I hope there's some reservations made somewhere and that it isn’t an old ghost town. Are you going to a little candy shop where you pick up some nice chocolates?

Alex “So you're saying do a little research into the town before you go?”

Abby “You must.”

4. Volunteer at a Senior Center (7/10)

Abby “I’m sure the seniors would love company, especially on Valentine's Day, because most people are probably like me and don't want to do that on Valentine's Day so I give that a 7/10 just based on how sweet that is.”

5. Write the Story of Your Favorite Date of the Year (6/10)

Abby “That one's very cute, I’d love that… what else is happening?”

Alex “Maybe dinner is involved.”

Abby “All right so dinner is involved. There could have been a little bit more pizzazz with that one.”

6. Karaoke Night in Your Living Room (0/10)

Abby (laughing) “This one is not for me, flat zero, just like flat line———NO. But it is a fun idea if you're more of an extrovert.”

7. Plan Your Next Dream Vacation (5/10)

Abby “That could be fun. It's very romantic and shows me that you care and that you're invested in us having fun in the future. There's not a ton of instant gratification with that one so I’ll place that right in the middle. 5/10.”

8. Buy Local Artisan Chocolate (4/10)

Abby “I am gluten and dairy free, so you had to put effort into finding chocolate that worked, but that's it. (Laughs). I give this a 4/10.”

9. Make Tea and Watch the Sunrise Together (7/10)

Abby “I give this one a 7/10, especially if you're going to bring along a blanket and make sure I have all the necessary outerwear.”

10. Take a Virtual Cooking Class (9/10)

Abby “This is something that we have actually done before on Valentine's Day and it’s very fun. Speaking from experience, I give that a 9/10, it was really fun and unique.”

11. Clean the bathroom and bathtub, set-up candles, and make a bubble bath (7/10)

Abby “I like this one, and see the effort in it. 7/10.”

12. Staycation at a Boutique Hotel (10/10)

Abby “That's super fun because hopefully it's starting on Valentine's Day, but it leads into the next day so it really becomes a thing.”

13. Make Care Packages for the Homeless (7/10)

Abby “I think you could have fun, put some music on. I think the best part of this one would be making the care packages with your loved one.”

BONUS

These are some of the more quirky ideas I found around the web!

14. Take Photos of Each Other Doing Handstands in Weird Places (2/10)

Abby (laughing) “I cannot do a handstand so already, it's low. I would probably give this one a 2/10 and those 2 points are only because if we actually did this I would be extremely proud of ourselves.”

15. Buy One of Everything at a Local Dessert Shop (8/10)

Abby “It would be expensive, you'd have to legit save up for this, but you'd go in drop a stack of bills and come out with like how many boxes of desserts? You would make that shop owner’s day, first of all, but you could also pass them out to people on the street.”

16. Make an At Home Circus (2/10)

Abby (laughing) “If you're a family I give this a 5/10. That could be cute to tell your kids, “we're gonna have family circus night!” But if you're a couple doing this, I mean it would be a little weird. It'd be really hard to pull off, I’d give it a 1 or 2 if you're a couple.”

So, how’d she rate me? Do you agree with her? Got any favorite dates you want to share? Post in the comments below, we’d love to hear!
